Rule: In English, the subject comes before the verb.
Examples:

  • Many people have moved to this town.
  • They not only come in groups, but they also bring their families.
  1. Inversion (V → S)

Rule: In inverted constructions, the subject comes after the verb.
Examples:

  • Never have so many people moved to this town.
  • Not only do they come in groups, but they also bring their families.
  1. Adjectives: General idea

In a noun phrase, adjectives usually follow a typical order.

Adjective order: Example 1

a beautiful purple Indonesian silk batik

Order:
Determiner → Descriptive → Colour → Nationality → Material → Noun Head

Adjective order: Example 2

the historical huge old black Buddhist stone statue

Order:
Determiner → Descriptive → Size → Age → Colour → Religion → Material → Noun Head
