1. Definition of Announcement

An announcement is a written or spoken statement in public or formal words containing information about an event that has happened or is going to happen so publicly people know what, when, and where it is about.

Berbeda dengan Explanation Text, teks pengumuman merupakan suatu pernyataan baik secara tertulis atau lisan yang berisi informasi mengenai suatu hal atau acara yang telah terjadi atau yang akan berlangsung sehingga khalayak umum tahu tentang apa, kapan, dan dimana acara tersebut berlangsung.

2. Purpose of Announcement

An announcement is used for giving people some information of what has happened or what will happen.

Tujuan dari announcement text atau teks pengumuman yaitu untuk memberitahu orang-orang mengenai beberapa informasi tentang apa yang telah terjadi atau acara apa yang akan berlangsung.

3. Generic Structure of Announcement

Di dalam announcement text, ada 4 (empat) aspek struktur teks yang harus diketahui. Struktur teks dari teks pengumuman diantaranya adalah:
 

3. • Stating purpose
     The text that contains what event will be held – Kalimat yang memberi informasi tentang acara apa yang akan berlangsung atau dilaksanakan.
   • Stating day and date
     Day and date realization. The text that contains when the event will be held – Kalimat yang memberi informasi tentang kapan acara akan dilaksanakan.
   • Stating place
     The text that contains where the event will be held – Kalimat yang memberi informasi tentang lokasi atau tempat diadakannya acara yang akan berlangsung.
   • Informing sender
     The text that contains name of the person who will be contacted – Kalimat yang memberi informasi tentang nama seseorang yang bisa dihubungi apabila ada sesuatu yang perlu ditanyakan mengenai acara yang diumumkan.
4. Language Features of Announcement

Terdapat 2 (dua) unsur kebahasaan yang perlu diperhatikan dalam announcement text, diantaranya dalah:
