Real Future Result
Definition : The first conditional shows a real, possible future outcome. Form: If + present simple, will + base verb. Example: If it rains, I will take an umbrella. Note: the if-clause uses present simple; the result clause uses will + base verb to express a likely future action.
Real Future Possibility
- Used for general truths. If you heat ice, it melts. The form is present + present, and the result is always true in real life.
- Used for real future possibilities. If you study, you will pass the test. Form: if + present simple, will + base verb; it points to a real future outcome.
Forms in Use
Affirmative, negative, and question forms use the same tense and word order. For example: ‘If she arrives on time, we will start the meeting.’ ‘If she does not arrive on time, we will not start the meeting.’ ‘If she arrives on time, will we start the meeting?’ And contraction: ‘If she doesn’t arrive, we’ll wait.’
