1. What Is a Procedure Text?

A Procedure Text is a type of text that explains how to do something, how to make something, or how to operate something by following a series of ordered steps.
It helps readers carry out an activity correctly and safely.


2. Purpose of a Procedure Text

The purpose is to give clear instructions or directions so the reader can achieve a result successfully.

Examples of purposes:

  • How to cook a dish

  • How to use a tool

  • How to operate a device

  • How to play a game

  • How to make a craft

  • How to start an application


3. Types of Procedure Text

There are several types:

States what we are going to do.

2) Materials / Ingredients (Optional)

List of tools or items needed.
Some procedure texts don’t need materials.

3) Steps / Methods

A series of commands arranged in logical order.
Steps often use numbers or bullets.

4) Conclusion / Tips (Optional)

Additional helpful advice or safety warnings.


5. Language Features of Procedure Text

✔ Imperative (Command) verbs

  • Turn on…, Add…, Press…, Mix…, Choose…, Tap…

✔ Action verbs

  • Open, close, click, pour, stir, boil, fry, select

✔ Sequence connectors

  • First

  • Next

  • Then

✔ Simple Present Tense

Used to explain actions in general.

Steps:
