What are the connective words?

Pengertian connectives adalah kata atau frasa yang menghubungkan bagian kata, frasa, klausa atau kalimat. Connectives juga dikenal sebagai kata atau frasa yang berfungsi untuk membuat transisi atau menghubungkan kalimat satu dengan kalimat berikutnya atau paragraf satu dengan peragraf lainnya. Connectives dalam bahasa Inggris berupa conjunctions (when, but atau because), dan connecting adverbs (Unfortunately, consequently atau actually).

Perbedaan connective dan conjunction

Connective dan conjunction adalah dua hal yang memiliki kesamaan yaitu sebagai kata penghubung. Meskipun begitu, perbedaan antara  connective dan conjunction tetap ada. Conjunction adalah kata penghubung yang masuk ke dalam tipe connectives. Dengan kata lain, conjunction sudah termasuk connective, sedangkan connective belum tentu termasuk ke dalam jenis conjunction. Ini dikarenakan connectives memiliki dua tipe yakni conjunction dan connecting adverb. Jadi kata atau frasa yang termasuk connective tidak selamanya disebut conjunction, tetapi bisa jadi kata atau frasa tersebut dikategorikan sebagai connecting adverb bukannya conjunction.

Time connectives ini berfungsi untuk menunjukkan waktu kejadian. Contoh connectivenya adalah in the meantime, the next day (week/month/year/decade), the previous day (week/month/year/decade), now, meanwhile.

Order atau sequence connective

Order atau sequence connective tidak jauh berbeda atau bahkan terkesan sama dengan time connective. Connective ini berfungsi untuk mengurutkan sebuah informasi atau kejadian berdasarkan langkahnya. Contoh: before, after, then, first, second, third, next, finally, at last.

Contrast connective

Contrast connective befungsi untuk menjelaskan perbedaan dari kalimat sebelumnya. Connective ini juga bisa untuk menguraikan penjelasan tambahan mengenai hal yang bertentangan dari kalimat sebelumnya. Contoh connectivenya adalah: on the other case, on the other side, but, otherwise, in contrast, actually, however.

Comparison 

Berfungsi untuk menjelaskan perbandingan terhadap suatu ide (informasi). Contohnya: in the same way, like, in the same manner, similarly, in the same case, equally.

Space and place

Berfungsi untuk menunjukkan ruang dan tempat di mana sebuah kejadian atau informasi itu terjadi. Contohnya connectivenya adalah here, there, behind, in front of, on the right (left).

To illustrate or signal an example

Connective ini berfungsi untuk mengilustrasikan atau menguraikan informasi diikuti dengan contohnya contohnya. Connectives yang termasuk adalah for instance, for example, to illustrate, such as.

Fungsi connective yang terakhir adalah untuk menarik atau membuat kesimpulan. Contohnya: to sum up, in short, in conclusion, in summary.

Distance education is the advantage of the internet, using internet education can be taught in rural areas where there are no teachers available. Students in the village can learn through the internet they give online exams. Everything has become online today even there is no need to go outside for food; using the internet we can order food as well. As I have said, it has lots of advantages.

Nevertheless, every coin has two sides and the same as the internet too. The Internet has disadvantages for those who use it for bad purposes. Hacking, shipping, fishing, intruding, cyber-crime is taking place just because of the internet. Even college students who use it for bad purposes face difficulty and get fished into some fishy tricks. Security is the main aspect of the internet if people are doing transactions of Rupiah and if someone hacks its account them it can be disadvantageous. So, security and usability are prime concerns of the internet.

In conclusion, if the thing is available for two purposes then we should always look for the positive one. If we use it positively we can increase our knowledge and earn money too. Information can be easily retrieved using it. Internet is a boon for those who use it for positive purposes and a curse for those who use it for negative purposes.
